The Task
In this “mini”project I worked together with 3 fellow students on an evaluation of the comfort.dk website on behalf of Dafolo Marketing (renamed to Corbiz). Our evaluation of the website was divided into three focus areas: “evaluation by the use of persona” , “evaluation of the navigation structures and categorization” and “an overall evaluation of the user experience”.
The Comfort.dk website is a concept developed by the electricity-, plumbing- and ventilation wholesaler Solar. Solar want to use the concept as a marketing platform towards the end customers which in turn will tie their direct customers (the electrical contractors) closer to Solar.
Qualifications
As my primary work in this project was centered around the persona part it is clear that my primary lesson from this project is an understanding of how to develop persona descriptions but also how usable they can be when developing a website. The main point here of course is that a developer by using a persona can emphasize with how this fictive person would use the site and perceive the different aspects. It is of course also clear that an evaluation by persona descriptions cannot be used as a replacement for traditional usability testing.
Apart from this our work with categorization also provided me with a practical understanding of how aspects from the theory about categorization could be applied to describe and find specific issues in how a website is structured.
Results
In general the results of our evaluations were a lot of feedback on how the website would be perceived by its users and how they actually land on the website (if they do). There were therefore many quite specific issues that we could inform Dafolo Marketing about. What we gave Dafolo Marketing was therefore a chance to look at the website with a new perspective such that they could deal with the many issues that we found.
