    Master Thesis: Make Them Think

    My master thesis is made in collaboration with the day and evening school Fokus Folkeoplysning. Based on an evaluation of the site, some interviews with employees and some other methods I developed a new strategy for how they could attract new customers and get more customers to sign up online.

     

    Case Study

    During the master thesis I among others worked with the following aspects:

    - Heuristic evaluation
    - Stakeholder analysis
    - Benchmarking
    - Low level wireframing
    - Search engine optimization

    The Task

    My master thesis within the study of Information Architecture was made based on a collaboration with the day and evening school Fokus Folkeoplysning. The goal of this assignment was to develop a new strategy that Fokus Folkeoplysning could use as a guide on how to attract more customers and how to improve the website such that more people would use it when signing up for courses.

    During the thesis I primarily worked with heuristic evaluation and stakeholder analysis. The heuristic evaluation was made in collaboration with actual customers at Fokus Folkeoplysning. The way I performed this evaluation could to some extent be seen as a hybrid between heuristic evaluations and usability testing in the traditional sense. By using these two methods and a few others I gained a deep insight into what the organization wanted to achieve and which problems resided at the current website.

    Qualifications

    The work in this master thesis provided me an opportunity to go into depth with the initial investigations of an information architecture project. It also provided me with insight into the versatile results that can be achieved by a thorough evaluation of a website and stakeholder interview with employees. The work also provided insight into which aspects are important to focus on when developing a new strategy. In this sense I in particular thing about the importance of a coherence between web strategies and business strategies.

    Results

    The result of my work for Fokus Folkeoplysning was that I developed to two sided strategy in which on part made overall suggestions for how they could achieve their goal about attracting more customers. It was here important to go beyond the website and to a much large extent attract customers in their daily context in a different way than their competitors do. In the second part my strategy focused on how the website should be changed and how the interplay between the overall strategy and the website should be such that a coherent “image” of the organization in all the marketing approaches are established and a general direction of customers towards the website is achieved.
